I have a car charger for my iPhone. Is it safe to use that for the iPad?

I've used mine and it works, although it might charge slower. My trip wasn't long enough to really tell but it won't hurt the iPad.
You have to check the specs on your car charger. The one that I have is not powerful enough to charge the iPad, but works fine on all my iPods and iPhones.
It worked for me.
Thanks all, it seemed to work although my car trip wasn't long enough to get a full charge, but it did go up a few percent.
I tried my iPhone car charger, which i bought at Apple and it did not seam to work...it says not charging. Some people say that if you trun off the screen it will charge. I am trying that now. however. when I am in my car and I need to charge it is most likely because I need to use it.
I want to be able to use it in the car. This is not good..!
Daes anyone one of a brand of car chargers that works with the iPad..?

If the adapter will charge your iPhone, it will charge your iPad, although more slowly. It may help to put the iPad to sleep, if you can.

I had the same problem.
I would also like to use it and charge it at the same time while I am in the car...! Not while I am driving in case you are all wondering.. ha..!
However I may need navigation and it is more dangerous to keep tuning the iPad on while I drive than just look at it while I keep it on and charged.
Does anyone know a car charger that works

If you get a plugin power inverter for the car, you can use the wall charger that came with the iPad.

you can IT will take longer to chargez
The normal iPod/iPhone car chargers output 1amp The iPad needs 2Amp to charge normally
If you have a " cigarette lighter" power socket several manufacturers supply inserts with a 2.1amp USB outlet
for instance the Griffin Powerbolt and Kensington also do one
