iCal items entered on iPAD do not sync to MAC

I entered several items directly on my iPAD calendar. How do I get them to show up on my iMAC calendar? Sync links both calendars but does not move items entered into iPAD to main computer iCAL.

Ok this is not a tech way but worked for me .

I entered an event on my Ipad 2, this did not go to my MB pro but did go to my iphone ical app.

So then in the Iphone ical app I amended ( added a title) the original ipad entry then saved this entry it now shows up in my pro.

Now when I make an entry on my Ipad it links to my pro and my phone in the normal fashion ( seams it just needed an introduction)

OK, I feel your pain! I have done the same things (plus a few extra) and still have no luck syncing my iPad 2 through iTunes to my iCal. Just as above, if an event is entered on my Macbook it syncs to my iPad. If an event is entered on the iPad, no luck finding it on the Macbook (even tried refreshing on the Macbook). Then, just to rub my face in it... an event set up on my Macbook which syncs to my iPad, when deleted from my iPad stays on my Macbook! I'm wondering if they are even talking!!!

Any other ideas? Yes, I checked my default Calendar on my iPad 2. Yes I refreshed my Macbook iCal. No, I don't have MobleMe. No I don't have an iPhone. And yes, I have cleared (ie - deleted/wiped) all events etc. from iCal on my iPad, and then used the advance setting on iTunes to "Replace Information on this iPad". Still, the iPad does not send events to my Macbook!!! AAaaarrgggg. This has been going on for a few months and it's really frustrating! And just to be on the safe side, I have updated all software and repaired permissions.

MacBook 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Running OS X version 10.6.8

iTunes 10.3.1

iPad 2 (64GB) version 4.3.3

i finally resolved the problem. here's what i found. on the IPAD Settings, i went to "Mail, Contacts, Calendar". apparently, i have a Yahoo! calendar that i didn't even know i had..... so the items i created on the IPAD were destined for the Yahoo! calendar. i turned "calendars" to OFF, and then it worked. counter-intuitive, turning calendars off, but that's what fixed it.

Thanks ecbipaduser. This was something different, so I immediately tried it. However, when i went to my iPad Settings, under "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" Clear at the bottom under "Calendars" I only have

"New Invitation Alerts ON"

"Time Zone Columbus"

"Default Calendar iPad"

And yes iPad is my default Calendar

So I am obviously missing something. Could you be a little clearer on where I can turn "Calendars OFF"? Because yes, I do have a Yahoo Calendar, but never use it, don't receive emails from there to my iPad, and i checked and the events are not showing up there... but who knows! I'm up to try anything! 🙂

Thanks again.

John I think you are onto something. When I enter an event on iCal on my iPad, it syncs up to my MobilMe calendar and then down to my iPhone, but not down to iCal on my MacBook Pro (everything works in every other direction by the way). Nothing I do on my MBP will make the event show up (reset sync history, refresh calendar, etc.). However, if I go back into that event on my iPad (not on my iPhone as John suggests) and simply make a change, ie change the time or date of the event for example, it syncs up to MobilMe and down to my MBP in 10 seconds! (and down to my iPhone as well). Somehow or another when you make a NEW event on the iPad it will associate everywhere accept the laptop iCal. And, I thought the mothership was MobilMe, so this is all confusing to my that it beams up fine to MobileMe and then down to "some" devices (iPhone) but not others (MBP laptop). And this only seems to be an iPad specfic thing. If I create an event on my iPhone it syncs up to MobileMe and then down to my iPad and my MBP instantly. From a business perspective, you could end up missing some very important appointments if you use your iPad and assume it is going to show up on your laptop. I wish some Apple IT guru would shed some light on this...

I had this issue.

I am using a gmail account for my phone and I suspect it will be the same issue for this.

If you are using a gmail, yahoo, or similar web-based email account, you need to add that into your Ipad as an email account. This will allow you then to turn its calendar functions on, and you will then be able to see it as the default calendar in your settings.

Once you have this also checked on your Macs iCal, it should then synce without a problem. Well, that was my problem anyhow and this solved it.

Hope this helps

John

After two hours trying out all the tips offered here to get my iPad calendar to sync automatically with my iMac iCalendar, and getting nowhere, I called Apple and was told by a tech person that iCal cannot update the iPad2 calendar over the air -- you have to manually sync your iPad with your iMac every time you want to sync the calendars.

However, she said that the new iOS5 being released this Wednesday, Oct 12, will change that. If you update to iOS5 and turn on iCloud, the calendars will sync to the server so your iMac and iPad calendars will mirror eachother.

Got it working.

Here is what is important: when creating the iPad calendar event, you must select a category that is shown as one of your iMac iCal categories.

You can actually have different categories on the iPad and iCloud than you do on your computer - so, if you don't select a category that is also on your computer - from your computer's category selector, it won't show up on your computer's iCal.

It would be nice if the Categories also sync'd automatically upon pairing with a new device though...

I've been using Mac's since 1989, so please help me out as I'm not getting what you're saying. What are these 'categories' you speak of? Are you talking about the different calendars that you can define on the left hand pane in iCal? When I create an event in iCal on my Mac or iPad, I see nothing about 'categories' or any options to select one... Thx.

On the iPad, when adding an event, one of the items in the Add Event pop-up window is "Calendar". Touching that field will disclose the category area; one will say "From My Mac" and the other wil say "iCloud" (which is iPad, iPhone centric). For the your events to sync back to your Computer, you must choose one of the categories in the "From My Mac" area so your computer will "see" the event during the sync operation.

You do need to double check that the iPad, in the Settings > Mai, Contacts, Calendars > Default Calendar has one of your Computer categories selected if you want all new events to be sync'd by default.

Also, in iTunes > your iPad > Info > Sync Calendars has either "All Calendars" or the categories within your computer categories you want sync'd as well.

I don't believe this is such a big deal for folks using Mobile Me because I thing it happens automatically for them - but I don't use that service. So, this is the Syncing work-around: manual selection of the your computer categories on the iPad.

Hope this helps.

and the other wil say "iCloud" (which is iPad, iPhone centric).

This is completely incorrect.

The iCloud calendars are iCloud centric, not iPad/iPhone centric.

They sync between all devices (computer and iDevices).

On the iPad and my Mac (both), I do not have any "On My Mac calendars" as they are all sync'd with iCloud.

If you are using iCloud, you don't need to sync calendars via iTunes.

iCal items entered on iPAD do not sync to MAC
