iPad remote control for Keynote?

To be clear, when using the Keynote Remote app on the iPhone, you will not do the pairing through the Bluetooth section of the general iPad settings -- the remote will only show up in the settings inside the Keynote app itself. In other words, you're not pairing the iPhone to the iPad like you would a keyboard or other Bluetooth device, but instead pairing the Keynote Remote app on the iPhone to the Keynote app on th iPad.

Thanks. I understand that but does it connect via wifi and or Bluetooth. When i turn off wifi it won't connect. Also anyone know of a third party clicker which is smaller and neater. Cheers

It connects via bluetooth.

It CAN of course connect with wifi. But my messages above are bluetooth only.

No of no alternative clicker. I would guess that would take some development time after release of new Keynote because the pairing is between the Remote and Keynote

Why don't you just install the actual Keynote app onto your ipod touch or iphone. Then instead of using the ipod touch or iphone as a remote, you can use either one as the device that actually stores and displays the presentation onto a projector...

That may work in some circumstances, but having the cable dangling off the device makes it awkward to walk around with. The advantage of using a remote is that one doesn't have to be near the projecting device, and one can be mobile.

Wi-fi working fine, not bluetooth. Following all the previously posted instructions but I still get a "Linking failed" message after entering the code. The iPad "sees" my iPhone but the link fails. Could it be a 3G issue - onlly works on a 3GS, 4?

I don't know what could be causing that, grigby1 -- I've never encountered that error message.

Got home and spent another 99¢ to download Keynote Remote on my daughter's 3GS. Bluetooth connection works just fine. Must be another unsupported feature on the 3G. Think she'll notice if I switch phones on her? Another reason to upgrade?

i also had some problems connecting through bluetooth. But after disconnecting the wifi, on both the iphone and the ipad, problem solved.. it shows a message telling that you have to connect the wifi, but if you wait it will pair through bluetooth.

As I stated in my posts just above, following all documented procedures including turning off wi-fi, Bluetooth linking does not work on a 3G. It works just fine on all the other models my wife and daughters have here in the house. Anybody else out there tried Bluetooth linking on a 3G?

I thought the Universal Dock with its ir port would provide me an easy navigation through Keynote presentations (on the iPhone) with the Apple Remote. I think this would be the easiest way of providing this feature.

It's crazy this hasn't been implemented. It doesn't seem to be a hard job to get 3-4 buttons work in an application they made themselves...

I know this is old news now, but I thought I could just clear this thread up.

Purchase an Apple TV V2 and with the update to ios5 you will be able to mirror your iPad/iPod wirelessly to a projector.

Connect the apple tv to the projector or tv you will be presenting on. Hdmi or with an hdmi to VGA converter.

Connect both devices - Apple TV and IPad/iPod/iPhone - to the same wireless network.

Double tap the home button on your idevice, scroll to the left, activate " mirroring"

*Must be an Apple TV V2

*Must be running ios5 ( not available at the time of writing this)
