This "fix" in OS 5.1 does not open up the iPad's bluetooth functionality to broad recognition of bluetooth enabled devices.

It does reportedly fix the bug which prevented the iPhone based Keynote Remote app to communicate with the iPad based Keynote app. This connection is made through the software (both the iPhone based Keynote Remote app and the iPad based Keynote app), not through bluetooth recognition.

So, it is reported that, if you have an iPad with the Keynote app, and you have an iPhone with the Keynote Remote app, and you follow the instuctions, you can control a Keynote presentation on your iPad through the Keynote Remote app on your iPhone, wirelessly via bluetooth.

I have tried it twice in the real world, and it worked once and dropped me a couple times in the second presentation.

Thanks Tulse! It does indeed work. I still would much rather have a small handheld presenter w/ laser pointer like the Logitec, which works great w/ my MacBook Pro, but the iPhone remote will have to do for now. Maybe iPad4?

Appreciate your help, and all the others on this thread who are dealing w/ Apple's intransigence.

I completely agree that a more general solution that supports third party devices would be far preferable, and I am flummoxed as to why Apple refuses to provide such.  For now, I am just glad that the limited functionality we did have that was broken with 5.0 has been returned to us.

    // general solution //

    # 1. Let us not introduce driver **** to the iOS world.

#2. If Apple could do it via apps , it seems probable that a third party could build a Keystone remote hardware and app.  But, not starting with the innards of an iPhone to which the app could hitch a ride, the hardware likely would make it expensive.

By the sound of it 5.1 fixes the problem where the iphone needed to be capable of tethering (ie Hotspot allowed by phone company) before Keynote pairing via bluetooth would work. i cannot test this as I have tethering.

I have a bluetooth remote that will wirelessly control keynote up to 100 feet away.  It comes in a foot pedal or a hand held remote.  The company that sells it is called AirTurn and you can get one right now. You can use it with any .pdf reader, teleprompting software, music management software and a host of other software apps.

Ginny, are you saying that your product works with Keynote for iPad?  I don't see Keynote listed on the compatible software on the website.

I have a blue tooth page turner that will remotely control your iPad as a teleprompter, Keynote, or about 30 or more different apps that is managed by a foot pedal or a hand held remote. (up to 100 feet away.)

You can buy it right now at www.airturn.com.

Ginny, I don't see it on the page you mentioned -- where exactly is the info?

I'm sorry if I sound dubious, but as far as I know Keynote for iPad doesn't use the standard Bluetooth setup, and I would be very surprised if Apple used a third-party SDK to accommodate a third-party device.  Am I incorrect?  I'd be delighted to have another option.

    BT105

The BT105 is the Bluetooth version for iPad and MAC.

The BT-105 is super compact and can connect to one or two foot switches. A simple tap on the right foot switch will turn pages forwards, and a tap on the left foot switch will turn pages backwards. (Note:  Foot switches sold separately)

The BT-105 features a power switch, status indicator light, and an internal rechargeable battery with a mini USB recharging port. Battery life will vary, but users can expect up to 100 hours of standby usage. The BT-105 also features automatic Bluetooth pairing with the iPad for easy connections and fast page turns, as well as a built-in debounce filter to prevent multiple page turns for each foot switch press.

The BT-105 works with a growing number of iPad apps as well as Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Keynote for PC and Mac Bluetooth equipped computers.
