Nord: Instrument Select button (midi 13 "effect #2 msb") messes up patch

When I am using my Nord I find the prohibition from using expression in piano mode and sustain in organ mode to be irritating. I don't care if it's authentic--I want to sustain, **** it!
Anyway, when I have been editing my patches in mainstage, if I hit the instrument select button on the nord in order to go back and forth for whatever reason, it sends out midi message #13. Then my sound gets screwed up and if I'm not mistaken even if I close and re-open the file it stays messed up.
Anyone else have this problem?

I have done pretty detailed programming using my Nord Stage EX and Mainstage (amongst other synths / keyboards) and haven't come across the problem you describe with CC#13, although you may be using a different keyboard?

RE the expression on the piano - what do you want it to do? If you want it to control voume, you could route the MIDI form the Nord to Mainstage and then assign the expression pedal via Mainstage to the CC# for volume - 64 I think. Also have you tried doing something similar and having the MIDI CC# for sustain sent into the Nord via MIDI, rather than using the pedal locally? Nord might have the organ set not to respond to that MIDI CC but it's worth a try.

I have the nord electro2 and the instrument select button is hard-wired (midi) to 13, which blunts the sound of whatever mainstage instruments I'm using. I tried to "learn" it to a random midi control number (79) in layout by assigning a button on the layout to that button, but it still sends out signal 13. Then I tried in the concert to override that setting but it didn't work.

Good morning,

I'm sorry to jump in here but I am new to this and didn't know how else to reach out to 'Pringe'

I'm starting with Mainstage and would like to control it with my Nord Stage Classic. My first attemptleft much to be desired though I fell I may just not be thinking about how to go about it correctly. You say you've done this, - are you willing to share your experiences and perhaps your Mainstage Layout for the Nord Stage so that I can get an idea of what can be done? I wonder if I should just get a dedicated controller...

Thanks for your time and information,
GRod

It depends on what you want to do in MainStage.
I had a quick look at the controls of the Nord Stage Classic. They seem to be dedicated to that specific instrument & allow you to control the sound in quite a sophisticated way. They are supposed to allow you to control external devices, but you don't have many controllers available for that.

If you want to make full use of MainStages options, you may be better off with an additional external controller. I find the EU-33 is very versatile & not too expensive. M-Audio supply them now. It gives you 9 faders, 24 rotaries & 10 buttons. Each one can be set to any MIDI channel & any MIDI control number. 43 controllers should allow you to control MainStage in many ways.

If you decide to adopt that route, I am willing to help with layouts & controls.
