Uninstall Windows XP and Virtual Box

I am not very good at computers. Someone helped me to install Windows XP that is operated under Virtual Box. I found that Virtual Box window screen is not big enough on my 13" MacBook. Now I want to uninstall both Windows and Virtual Box from my MacBook. After Uninstalling them I will go with partitioning my disk space to Windows, so that when running Windows, it will have the full screen mode.
My problem is that I don't know how to uninstall my current Windows and Virtual box. Please help me with this? I am trying to learn a new program that runs only on Windows, and it is expedient.

Hi,

VirtualBox has an online version of its User Manual avaiable here http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/UserManual.html

Quoted from that:

*Deleting virtual machines* (has to be done first)

To remove a virtual machine which you no longer need, right-click on it in the list of virtual machines in the main window and select "Delete" from the context menu that comes up. All settings for that machine will be lost.

The "Delete" menu item is disabled while a machine is in "Saved" state. To delete such a machine, discard the saved state first by pressing on the "Discard" button.

However, any hard disk images attached to the machine will be kept; you can delete those separately using the Virtual Media Manager; see the section called “The Virtual Media Manager”.

You cannot delete a machine which has snapshots or is in a saved state, so you must discard these first.

Uninstallation

To uninstall VirtualBox, open the disk image (dmg) file again and double-click on the uninstall icon contained therein.

(Quote end).

I presume that you no longer have the .dmg file from which VirtualBox was installed, so simply download the VirtualBox .dmg file from here http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads (click on the link at "VirtualBox for OSX hosts") and once downloaded double-click the dmg file and follow the a.m. instructions.

Hope it helps

Stefan

Thank you very much for your help. I followed your instructions and was able to uninstall the Virtual Box. But I am still wondering if the Windows XP (that run with the Virtual Machine) is still there in my Computer taking some dick space. If it is still there, could you help me how to remove that Windows? If it goes away when I uninstall the Virtual Machine, then there is nothing to worry for me.

Thanks again.

Hi Bat,

if you followed the instructions I provided and have used VirtualBox for deleting the Windows VM prior to uninstalling the VirtualBox application, then it is gone.

If you only uninstalled the VirtualBox application without deleting the Windows VM then it is still there.

Do a search in your User Folder for a file with the same name your Windows VM was named (e.g. Windows XP or the like).
Once found (typically you should have two files) delete them manually.

regards

Stefan

Thank you for the support. I was reading about Boot Camp in order to install Windows on MacBook. It said that I need the Mac OS install disk. But I don't have my Mac OS install disk with me at the moment. I left it back home. So I was wondering if it is possible to install Windows XP without the Mac OS X install disc. Isn't it enough to download the Boot Camp from apple.com? As I understand, the Mac OS install disk is required only to set up Boot Camp setup.exe file, correct?
The reason I want to go without the original Mac OS X install disk is because it is in another country and it will take quite long for it to come here.
Please help me on this.

Hi Bat,

you have to use your Mac OSX Snow Leopard (or Leopard) isnatll DVD while in Windows to install the Apple BootCamp Drivers from it.
There is no substitute for that and no way to download these drivers.

Only after that you can use the updated BootCamp Drivers that can be downloaded from here http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/windows/
The updates are really just that and won't work unless the Drivers from the OSX install DVD are installed before.

Sorry

Thanks again for you help. I was able to install Windows XP on my MacBook with Bootcamp. The problem I am having now is the display size of the Windows XP on the screen. Everything seems to be bigger than normal and somewhat blurry. I was able to adjust the Text size. But other Functional buttons and the User Interface items just look out of size. The Internet Explorer displays everything too big and doesn't fit in the window. So the content needs to be scrolled back and forth to see all because they are too big for the window.
Can you please help me with this? I was thinking about finding and installing Windows 7 in hope that it may be better as far size and resolution than Windows XP.
Another problem I am having is that during my installation I copied the applications on my Mac to another disk thinking that it was the same as backing up. But when I copied back them to my applications folder of a newly installed Mac OS X, they stopped working. It lost the Installs of the programs. I wonder if there is any way to bring these applications back.
