I find that when I'm typing, it doesn't always auto-capitalize some things, like "iPad" (it leaves it as "ipad") or "I" (it just leaves the letter "i").
Has Apple acknowledged this bug, yet? It does it on two iPads I have.
This is still driving me a little bonkers. Would be so nice if Apple had a method whereby they would show you a list of confirmed bugs and what will be addressed in iPad updates... sigh
The iPad auto suggest learns your typing. Once you've typed in "iPad" correctly three times, it should suggest it. You should be able to seed your suggestions by typing in words that you commonly use into a Contact's notes field and then syncing to your iPad, since iPad uses your Contacts like a dictionary.
One other thing, if you backspace while typing a word, the auto suggest is turned off until you type the next word.
Kevin is spot on here. The ability to backspace and defeat the auto feature is important where you need lower case. The more you type, the better it all gets.

Auto-capitalization is very flaky...
