Problem installing 10.6.3 update

I am running 10.6.2 on my Mac Pro 2.93Ghz quad.
I made several attempts to install the update OS X 10.6.3.
The computer goes through the download process, but when it restarts to complete the installation, during the installation the following error message comes up:

"An error occurred during installation. None of the selected updates could be installed.
An unexpected error occurred."
"Restart"

"The update "Mac OSX Update" can't be installed. an unexpected error occurred."

Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

I have a few suggestions.

1. Boot to the original install disc that comes with your mac
- perform a repair disk / permissions

2. Boot into safe after doing above

3. Download the update again through the Apple Software update

Try this if the above does not fix the issue

4. Download the combo update manually and apply it

Kisuke3,
I tried your suggestions but with no success.
I went through the first three steps and when that did not work I tried the manual download.
Close to the end of installation of the manual download I received the following error message:

"There were errors with the installation. You may want to try installing again."

"The installation failed."

"The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail.
Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

Thanks for your effort anyway. I do appreciate it. If you have any other ideas I'd certainly give it a go.

how many Mac computers do you have at home?what kind of internet connection do you have?

if you have another mac and its failing that as well it could be possible that the problem is your network. Having said that, you need to download the combo update using another network say for example your office network.

Do try to download the combo update outside your network so we can see the possible issue here.

Just to make sure we're doing this correctly,

you have an intel machine that's currently 10.6 yeah?

I am having the same problem with a brand new 2.66 mac pro. We transferred my wife's G4 to it with the firewire transfer and then tried to do the software update after that.

Same message that you got about update failing and needing to restart. Restarted and it seems to run fine.

Still won't update though. I'm thinking it has something to do with the transfer of her user info and applications.
