iPad shows it is "Charged" at only 95%

Hello,

Whenever I charge my iPad, once it hits about 95%, the battery icon changes from the lightning bolt indicating that it's charging, to the icon of a wall plug indicating its charged. After leaving the iPad plugged in for about 45min. longer it eventually reaches 100% charge. My question is, why does the iPad show it is charged when only at 95%?

Thanks!

I know the device isn't overcharging or anything. It takes about 4.5 hours on the wall adapter to charge. I've charged it 3 times now and each time it turns into that wall plug icon around 92%-95% though it does proceed to make it to 100% shortly after. Restarting the device does not seem to make a difference either. I'll try to run the device all the way down to 0%, then recharge and see if that helps otherwise I'll be calling AppleCare.

Thanks for the replies and any other suggestions appreciated!

I am on a first generation iPad and just bought mine 3 weeks ago. I noticed in the last couple of days that there has been a charging issue. I have the same problem people are reporting here but mine is going the other way as well. Not only will it show the charged icon (the plug) when it is not at 100% but it shows the charging icon (lightning bolt) when it is at 100%. I went the next step and downloaded a battery application and that showed the battery at 100% when the iPad showed 99% and charging. I have not tried a reset only because I do not have iTunes at work and don't want to risk something going wrong. I have powered it down and back on several times with no improvement.
