iPad applications quit unexpectedly

I just set up my brand-new iPad, 16GB. I have been using it for a hour by now, and I have found that many applications that I have chosen to use quit unexpectedly, such as weather channel and New York Times.
I was wondering whether or not that my iPad hardware is working normally or there are some issues with it.
Are there anyone who have the same experiences that can share with me?
Thank you, any answers will be appreciated!!!

Apps crashing usually mean one of two things...

1) Apps got corrupted files
2) OS 3.2 has corrupted files

For 1) remove the app by long holding on its icon until icons wiggle...then tap the x and it is removed... then go into the app store and re-download that app (the two apps you listed are free but even if they are paid apps, iTunes will recognize you already paid for that app and will NOT charge you again for any re downloads) This does sometimes resolve the issues...

For 2) Restore is the fix... There are two ways to do this fix, but FIRST you want to try resetting iPad just in case that works along with my steps in option 1)...if not then read below

Plug in iPad to sync and backup the data... then choose "restore"
This will wipe all data off and put it back to factory settings, then once that is completed you will get two options... "Set up as new iPad" or "Restore from backup" Now, when trying to get rid of an OS bug...the usual choice is the "Set up as new iPad" the reason being that if you choose to "Restore from backup" you risk just putting the corrupted files right back on iPad since you have restored to the same backup that had the issues... However, First, you should still try "restore from backup" it sometimes works for you issue and if it does you will not risk loosing any user data or settings you have already put in iPad...

I have had the same problem with multiple apps crashing. Reboots/restores didn't work. I also had a problem with no bluetooth connectivity. I spent 45 min with a high level tech at Apple. interestingly enough, it was not to troubleshoot the iPad but to document the problem. They even had me run a program to pull my crash logs. This iPad is being replaced tomorrow. Apple is trying hard to find and correct the problems with the first gen iPad.

I have tried to isolate the problem, but it seems that it quits unexpectedly not on a particular apps but it happens with any app...

just got a 4s and, though it does not happen as frequent as the ipad1, i notice that i got similar occassions... i reduced my installed apps already to barely the minimum and yet... :-(

I suspect it is with the new IOS.

:-(

this is such a depressing experience. i hope Apple could resolve this soon!

FWIW - I'm running into the same thing with apps quitting mid-stream. I'm running into this in EverNote, HoursTracker, WebEx, and a couple other apps. Email is VERY slow to update too.

As a test, I disconnected my iPad1 from my work network, and everything seemed to be stable again. I then reconnected to the network and the App instability returned. Last evening, I tried the same test with my home wifi. The apps would abort when connected, but were stable when wifi was turned off.

I'm no "tech weenie", but it seems that there's an issue with the wifi part in iOS 5.0.1 (version my ipad is running - and I updated Monday).

I'll try the wipe and restore when I get a chance. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

It's iOS 5.0.1. Happens on my iPhone 4S, too, though not as frequently -- still noticeable, though. I wouldn't waste my time restoring the iPad. If it helps at all, it will only be temporary, and it's a hassle. Cross your fingers and wait for the next maintenance release of iOS 5, and/or app developers to update their apps to fix any incompatibilities, and in the meantime, turning the iPad off and on again will set it right for a few hours of use. Just rinse, repeat, until Apple updates iOS 5 again.

UPDATE: I just read something about 5.0.2 being delayed to fix memory leaks. Makes sense as the app crashing and sluggish response fixed by power cycling (which flushes main memory) is symptomatic of memory leaks. 5.0.1 was pushed out in a hurry to address battery life issues; those 5.0.2 memory leaks were likely in 5.0.1 but didn't get fixed because of release schedule, or weren't all tracked down. 5.0.2 will probably shore up battery life issues AND overall stability.

I took my iPad 1 to the apple store and they told me it was because I had so many apps open at the same time. I force quit all the open apps and started again. For me, Safari was crashing and iCal wouldn't load the current month unless I went forward a month first.

I opened those two apps first and neither crashed, but as soon as I opened a third app (Facebook), then went back to Safari it crashed. I find it hard to believe that I can now only leave one app open at a time.

Its got to be a memory leak issue as it never happened before 5.0.1. Don't bother going to the Genius Bar, that guy wasn't much of a genius.
