convert 30fps to 24fps?

Depends on the cameras and the formats. You might have 30fps but it's just baked to look like 24 in which case you'd add the pulldown. Or maybe you'd remove the pulldown. Doesn'[t matter to me, I can't really help you but the other guys will ask you about your shooting format, editing settings, and expected output/delivery format so try to round up that information for us.

If there is much movement in your interviews, you will not be very happy with the results of your frame rate conversion.

For free you can try the JES Deinterlacer. Do the smallest section you can and judge the footage to see if you can bear the look of it. If you like it, do that rest.

Why then edit in 23.976?
You need to throw away frames, and make up for it so it does not show...
I think it would be easier to add normal pulldown to the Red stuff, and edit in 29.97...

Although I haven't yet worked with the 7D. My friends are all buying 7D's so it's just a matter of time.

What little I do know is I would transcode to ProRez using Canon's E1 L&T plug-in to ensure it conforms to Canon's colorspace. My understanding is that is the recommended workflow.

If you haven't already come accross this, then perhaps the conform retiming workflow described in the video tut may be helpful.

Haven't really looked into Twixtor, etc.

At least you don't have 3k Red footage. 🙂.
