Can you download the entire paper and access it whenever you want throughout the day without being connected by Wifi or 3G?

I want to be able to download the paper each morning and have access to it all day without having to reconnect to Wifi or 3G.

Thanks!

please don't get irritated, but are you sure about this? I had exactly the same question and I went to the WSJ web site and it certainly doesn't make that clear -- it does mention being able to save "sections" or something like that If WSJ was offering a full download (like all Kindle content, which is downloaded and stored), I would have thought they would go out of their way to make it clear on their web site.

If I'm going to pay $140 a year, or whatever it is, I want to be sure I can do a download and take it on the plane with me.

Can you tell me when the new content is available for download each day? Thanks for your help.

For what it's worth, I subscribe to the on-line version and each year when the renewal comes up and I see the astronomical price, I call and tell them to cancel (you have to call, cannot do it via email) and magically the negotiations start. I usually get them down to a price I feel is reasonable and they tell me it's the last time they can do that... until the next year.

I have to wonder if this will be the same for the iPad subscriptions?

Bottom line is they need subscribers and I get the feeling their CS reps have been given latitude in negotiating with customers wanting to cancel.

That's so interesting. There are other companies, I know, that start offering deals when you call to cancel. I like the WSJ's app but I don't like it enough to subscribe at that price. They give you a decent chunk of it without the subscription. The NY Times app gives you a lot more for free but they have yet to fully translate that from the iPhone version. Their iPad version looks great but it has a lot less content, it seems. Also, with the iPad's lovely screen, I just go directly to their web site.

The NY Times is supposed to be working on a subscription version for iPad. Hopefully it will be along the lines of WSJ app, which I think works really well and is very user friendly. The download allows you to carry the content with you (e.g., airplane), whereas to get the full NY Times you have to have internet access, at least for now.
This is one of the best reasons to get an iPad, in my view. And the bright screen allows people like me with bad reading vision to read the paper anywhere (like a dimly lit room) without reading glasses. I never realized what a huge benefit the bright screen would be.
