Undo operation on iPad..

Has anyone noticed that the Undo operation on iPad is same as iPhone, which means you have to shake the device to undo? Shaking an iPhone is fine but very awkward for iPad give the size of the device. Needless to say, Shake to Undo is not intuitive for the first time user, even on iPhone. Very bizarre UI from Apple. I hope Apple will address this issue in the future release.

PC, Windows XP Pro, iPhone 3GS, iPad

I wish they'd move it, or get rid of it. I always hit the stupid thing while typing, and hit a button after before noticing. It won't let me undo beyond erasing everything. I absolutely hate it altogether.

Undo is on the virtual keyboard in the numbers keyboard. Redo is in the keyboard behind that (hit the #+= button from the numbers keyboard- which you got to by hitting the .?123 button in the top letters keyboard).

Okay. But it is tedious to go thru the numbers keyboard. If I touch the entry after paste, it pops up a bubble with select and select all options, so why not simply add undo option to the bubble? Touch undo will be so much nicer. Anyway, just sent a feedback on this.

in all of the iwork programs, there is an undo button near the "my documents" button.

You're absolutely right, it is a pain. The keyboard definitely needs some work, starting off with scroll (arrow) keys. Something like MS's right-click context sensitive function list would also be nice (even Macs finally employed that one, albeit without the right click). And why does Pages have an Undo button but no Redo button? Took me a while to find Redo buried in the alternate keyboard.

Shaking ur iPad would do too, although it's smthing more suitable on iPod and iPhone

I think that should be disabled on the iPad as it poses a safety danger being a 2 LB netbook. I don't have one yet but shaking the iPhone back and forth doesn't work but left and right does.

Thinking about it as taking a netbook and shaking it to pull up the undo feature. Then the netbook flies out of your hand and right onto the floor or into a passerby's body or face causing substantial injury.

It feels really odd trying to shake it to undo. Maybe a new gesture on the screen for undo?

If you press and hold down on the Undo button a small window will open and it has to buttons on it, undo and redo. Hope this helps

There is a little-known gestural capability built into the keyboard on the iPad. If you simply touch and hold the "123" button, the number keyboard will come up immediately and you can just slide your finger to "Undo". When you lift your finger, the keyboard immediately returns to the alphabetic version. This sounds complicated, but it's not at all...and it's one quick, fluid motion. Like this:

Touch "123", slide to "Undo", lift. There's no waiting for anything. Try it.

Okay, but can you undo the undo? Especially in Mail, you lose your entire message if you accidentally hit the undo button!!! Oops, I did find the message about the alternative keyboard with the redo, but you have to do that immediately afterwards or you still lose.

This is why I hate it! I wish I could turn it off, or get rid of it. It's in the way, and if accidentally erase everything oh can't undo it, if u hit anything after it erases.

Hi. If you turn off Settings > General > Keyboard > Shortcuts, you will not see those buttons. Personally, I hate that extra band on the KB because it covers part of the screen.
