iPhone tethering via automatic proxy script on Windows XP

Hi, I am setting up a windows XP laptop to tether with a new iPhone 3GS. The connection works fine when no proxy script is activated but the user needs the script activated to work within her company network. XP appears to use the same proxy setting regardless of the type of connection.

To change the settings you have to go into tools>internet options>connections>LAN Network>then check or uncheck her proxy config. THIS IS NOT VERY PARTICLE.

It seems that XP proxy setting are for the browser regardless of the connection type.

Is there anyway to set this up so when connection via cable or wireless it uses the proxy script and when connected by iPhone to not use any proxy?

I have tried auto detect proxy, proxy script and even the manual proxy server address without success.

Tethering is a carrier enabled feature so its completely dependent upon which carrier you are with, but you have not stated this in your signature. Some carriers require a payment to enable the feature, but some do not permit it at all.

If you are in the US, then AT&T do not support tethering at this time and you will not manage to achieve it no matter how your scripting skills are - sorry.

Hi, Yes tethering is active and allowed with Vodafone in New Zealand. If I configure the LAN settings in Internet Explorer to no proxy at all it works fine. The problem is the computer needs to have a proxy configured to access my organisation's network. When I set up the proxy so that it works correctly while on our campus I then find when tethering the computer can only access local pages - nothing outside the organisation's network.

The proxy script ( http://get-proxy.massey.ac.nz/) appears to work correctly. When connected by cable or wireless, it recognises if I am on campus or off campus and directs the traffic appropriately. For whatever reason the iPhone tethering via Vodafone's 3G network the computer wants to route traffic via the proxy server. (somebody out there might be able to spot an issue with that script on the link above).

I come from a Mac background where each network connection can have separate proxy settings and if you like you can create locations which are easily switched between - In XP it seems the only way to work around this is a 10 step process to turn proxies on or off - which is not acceptable for the end user who has minimal computer literacy.
