How do I reactivate old iPhone??? PLEASE HELP :(

My iPhone 3g broke (no apple care) and out of warranty. I have my old iPhone 2g and wondering if there's any way to re-activate it? I've taken out my AT&T sim and tried to reinstall but keeps coming up with the emergency call screen. How can I activate this thing asap????? Thank you!!!!
