download problems "you do not have permission to access the requested....

i've recently been having problems with downloads. it starts out alright but when i try to resume it i get the message "you do not have permission to access the requested resource". i first had this problem on my torrent program that was routed to my portable HD. i figured there must be something wrong with my HD but now even if i try to download anything from safari using the default download function on mac, it's the same thing. i already updated everything on my computer a while ago so i'm sure it's not a software update problem.

any help would be greatly greatly appreciated. thank you very much.

macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

Launch Disk Utility and run Repair Disk Permissions.

Then try downloading again.

After doing the above go to this link and try downloading this Apple file and see if you get the same message. You don't need to continue the download. Just wanted to see if you still get the message:

Also, have you rebooted since you began seeing this?

thank you for the reply. yes i did the repair permissions, rebooted and tried to download the file and everything went smoothly. but when i tried to download another file it still gives me the same message. actually my problem isn't that i'm not able to download but if the download gets stopped at one point i cannot resume it and it gives me the same message.

Well, if you are successfully downloading form some sites but not from others, then the issue is likely not on your side. Rather, it may be an issue with the server on which the file resides.

What if the download does NOT get interrupted? Then does it completed successfully? Or is it a case where this particular download always gets interrupted, perhaps at the same spot all the time? Then the problem is not likely on your end.

yes. if the download does not get interrupted then it's no problem. once it gets cut off i can't resume it. anyway i think the problem is fixed though. i was able to download the files that were causing me problems and my torrent downloads seem fine. thank you for your help.
