I have it set up that way but still no connection--Just keeps saying it can't connect to the server or that I am using the wrong password. Any other ideas?
The network is wi-fi in my apartment and the ISP is Road Runner. My problem is I can't even get by the set up. Ipad automatically fills in the server names etc. but it can never verify. I called Road Runner and they could do nothing.
I have a similar problem on my RoadRunner network at my home.I can receive mail on my RR account but can't send. I can using MobileMe and Gmail but not with RoadRunner. I can using iPad on the RoadRunner web site but NOT in mail.app on iPad.
This is because Road Runner (and some other providers) do not allow you to send (or reply) emails if you are logged in through another system. I had the same problem with a Samsung Omni when we had Staten Island Road Runner.
What you can do is use Safari to go to webmail.si.rr.com (well that was for Staten Island), log in there and do whatever you like.
You are correct about RoadRunner's refusal to send mail from a network outside your home but in my case I am on my home network and can't use RR to send mil from my account. I spoke to iPad's Senior Tech representative and he informed me that an update will fix this issue which is common to a lot of users of RR sending mail from their personal account.
From the Road Runner FAQ Website
The outgoing (SMTP) mail server address is:
smtp-server.socal.rr.com, smtp-server.roadrunner.com, OR smtp-server.ca.rr.com (i.e., your SMTP Server Name will have the same ending as your e-mail address)
The incoming (POP3) mail server address is:
pop-server.socal.rr.com, pop-server.roadrunner.com, OR pop-server.ca.rr.com (i.e., your POP Server Name will have the same ending as your e-mail address)
Also having trouble with RR e-mail...I can receive e-mail no problem with WIFI....when I send it I get error message "Cannot Send Mail - the connection to the outgoing server "smtp-server.cfl.rr.com" failed". The strange thing is when I turned off WIFI and used 3G the outgoing e-mail works!! So...WIFI I can receive e-mail but not send...with 3G I can send and not receive.....
Did you get this figured out? Purchased an iPad yesterday and get Roadrunner set up on Exchange. I know there is a pops and smpt server, but it only asks for one server during the setup. I used pops-server.socal.rr.com and received an error message that the "certificate" from the server could not be authenticated. Any thoughts? Time Warner was useless..
