Microsoft Word - Notebook layout has taken over.

Every time I open a word document it automatically opens in Notebook Layout view. I have changed the original settings and all the the settings of the files to the way I want before saving, but upon re-opening they immediately go back to Notebook Layout. How can I change these settings so that they will stay?

I'm using microsoft office 2008 with all current updates.

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.2)

To the best of my knowledge there is no way to do this once a document is in Notebook view, Matthew. It is a longstanding bugbear with Word that people have complained about for years.

The only "solution" I've ever been able to find to copy and paste the content of the "Notebook" document into a completely new, "normal" blank document. The internal structure of a "Notebook" view document is apparently modified, and can't be simply converted back for some reason.

Might be worth heading over to the Microsoft Mac Office forums ( http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/Word/ ) and venting a bit of spleen. Many have done so beforehand!

Cheers

Rod
