Can't Play WMV from mms:// URL

Can't Play WMV from mms:// URL

I have tried it after installing Flip4Mac and Perian, but my QuickTime (10) just can't open WMV streams (mms://). The most I get is the audio, sometimes.

My current "fix" is to watch them on VLC, but I'd really like to use just QuickTime.

Is that possible, somehow?

Flip4Mac is really the (only) answer for Windows Media in Quicktime. I remember mms being persnickety. I don't run QT X but I have read others post here about retaining QT7 alongside X for some compatibility that apparently X loses.

Thanks, Limnos! Do you know if Flip4Mac will integrate on QuickTime 7 and if there are such thing as a preference order, or a "default" QuickTime version setting once I get both installed?

Those are getting a bit beyond me, a humble user of Tiger OS. 🙂 As for default version, I would get info on a mms stream file and see if you can select a particular version.

It didn't work. Same blank screen, no sound behavior as QuickTime 10. Looks like I'm gonna have to use VLC for this kind of stuff.

support both RT and HTTP mms playback with QTX Maybe you should try reinstalling them just to check.

Well, I suspect they will just say it is a Microsoft/Flip4Mac problem. After all, it isn't their first priority to ensure that a Microsoft proprietary format play on a Mac.

I agree with you on the priority matter. But maybe they forward the subject to Flip4Mac or even Microsoft, which I believe would be interested in full compatibility.
