Broke Backup: iTunes could not back up the iPad because it disconnected err

More broken iTunes backup:

Now when I connect my iPad, it barber poles on 'backing up' for a few minutes, then beeps and throws up a dialog saying "iTunes could not back up the iPad "LB-iPad" because the iPad has been disconnected."

No, it hasn't been disconnected. It's still there, visible and browseable in iTunes.

This appears to be a known problem. Apparently, iPad has difficulty backing up when there are applications that use/store a large number of small files (navigation software, rss news readers, etc.). (Zivosity software, the guys behind the Beacon aviation navigation software is reporting that this is the case.) Try deleting applications that might fit this description or clearing some of their data, and see if you have better luck.

Same backup disconnect problem here and on 2 computers. Everything syncs though. Endless problems with apps not updating due to "its resources have been modified" or "because it is not signed".

I deleted everything about iTunes from my computers and reinstalled iTunes and uploaded the apps from my iPhone and iPad. No problems for a couple of times and then it started all over again.

I'm sick of wasting time with this BS. I'm an app developer, and in software dev since 1981, so rather tech savvy.

While these problems persist on my iPad and to some degree my iPhone I can successfully update apps directly from the App Store on the devices.

Also, there is no difference if I plug into a USB port on one of my monitors or directly into the computer.

The support I get at the Genius Bar at the Los Gatos Apple Store - No one else is having this problem. I suspect that most users realize they won't get a solution so don't try, as I did for many months.

I have the same problem and I am using Leopard 10.6.5 with iTunes 10.1. This problem began once I updated to 4.2.1 on my iPad. I have not had the same difficulty with my iPhone with 4.2.1. So far it appears to have actually backed up everything but it is disconcerting when the message comes up and I feel like I have to waste time checking to make sure important documents are backing up.
