Sound distortion?

Hey everyone. I have a 30gb fifth gen. video ipod and have been using a cable that connects through the headphone jack to connect to my TV (Panisonic). The video and audio is ok, however it does not play the audio completely. For example, When I play the music video "Telephone" from Lady Gaga the audio output does not play all the ringing/ dial tone noises in the song.

When I watch the video w/ headphones it plays the ringing noises, ring (left speaker) ring (right speaker) ring (left speaker) ring (right speaker). Same when I play the video in my car. The ringing noises go between both speakers.

When it plays on the tv the song is like, ring (nothing) ring (nothing). I've also hooked it up to our other tv (a Phillips LCD flat screen) and the audio has the same problem. Does anyone have a clue why it does this? Could it be my cable? Thanks for the advice 🙂
