Ipad bluetooth not working?

Hi,
Started with a brand new ipad with the latest itunes version etc last night. I wanted to pair my mono bluetooth headset for using with skype on ipad.
I switched on bluetooth from the settings menu. Ipad says it is now discoverable & detecting devices. But no device comes up for pairing. It just keeps on searching endlessly. Other devices are able to see the ipad - but not vice versa.
Any suggestions?

Neither the iPad nor the Touch support mono headsets. The iPad supports stereo headphones, speakers and keyboards. Even with stereo headsets, you can use the microphone (e.g. Motorola S9)

Thanks!

I chose mono speaker from the accessability setting. I was hoping that that would help.

BTW, I am not getting any detected devices on range - my blackberry, other phones, the headset etc. I was hoping that the devices would be seen - but that the messages might come up during pairing.

I hope that this is normal.

As mentioned, you can't pair to any of those things so I'm not sure why it would matter if they were detected.

Can the volume / track change be controlled with the Motorola S9? Can it be controlled with any BT stereo headphone?
