connecting iphone to ipad via bluetooth

For some reason my iPad won't recognise my iphone while it looks for devices with bluetooth. A couple of my friends have already successfully paired their devices to my ipad. Is there something wrong with my phone or am I missing something? Please help me out with any information, just trying to sort this out asap so I can play the scrabble application I just downloaded. Both my ipad and iphone had bluetooth on when I tried to pair them.

Hi Gatesy12. The feature you want is not Bluetooth pairing, but Continuity. See this link: Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support.

So I get that they won't pair over Bluetooth....is this something new? I used to have my old iPhone paired with my iPad mini, so I could receive my texts on my ipad when my phone was charging, but when i got my iPhone 6s I can no longer achieve this. I didn't use hotspot before...is this something new or has it always been the case?

To receive text and messages on an iPad from an iPhone, you need to have enabled Continuity. It has nothing to do with Bluetooth pairing at all. It has always been the case.

As has been said several times in this thread already, iOS devices will not pair to each other over Bluetooth except for Personal hotspot.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

Also I was able to see the bluetooth working on both the ipad and iphone on my mac book. But iphone bluetooth wont appear on my ipad.

The only Bluetooth connections supported by iPad are headphones, speakers and keyboards. I am calling BS on anybody having paired their phone to your iPad, or you pairing your iPad to your Mac.

I could swear I've seen it paired with my friend's blackberry.
Are you a 100% sure bluetooth doesn't allow it to communicate with other phones?

Tethering is something completly different. That same support article also says that you can use Peer to Peer bluetooth connections for applications. I also found an application that allows you to send files via bluetooth from my iphone to another or ipod touch or ipad. It is call BlueWaves. Tethering would in theory allow you to connect your iPhone to your iPad and use the internet from the iPhone on the iPad. Apple would not allow this because they have a 3G model coming out. Plus the iPhone is capable of internet tethering but ATT has blocked it from the phones until their network becomes more stable. I hope the information and that application help you accomplish what you would like to.

I've been tinkering trying to link my iPad to my HTC Touch pro, no dice so far. However, you can get around all that crap with www.cradlepoint.com. Mobile wifi that tethers to your 3g device be it phone, usb 3g, etc. 1 time fee, doesn't require a separate fee & you can jack in up to 16 devices depending on model.

This may sound convoluted but...If I have an iPad 3G with an AT&T data plan, could I not then use Skype and/or Vonage to make VOIP calls using my iPad cheaper then getting an iPhone with an AT&T plan? If so, can I use the bluetooth stack in the iPad to talk to a bluetooth headset (including micraphone)? I know I can always use the tethered Apple headset w/mic but it ***** and would prefer the wireless bluetooth option if the iPad would support it.

The iPad doesn't support the BT profile for a headset (ear/mic combo) only stereo headphones or speakers, peer-to-peer gaming and keyboards.

Supposedly it has to work. Scrabble for iPad recommends Bluetooth to connect iPhones and iPod Touches to the iPad for use as tile racks. It's designed that way and supposedly lots of people have it working well.

Yes, you CAN connect and iPad and iPhone via Bluetooth. There's a free app called photoshare. Now, you can ONLY share pictures and contacts, however, you can paste in any text into the 'notes' section of a contact and share text / documents that way. I have several contacts labeled 'Notes 1, Notes 2' just for this purpose.

Just do as the app says for connecting via Bluetooth.

I think that a) you cannot connect ipad to iphone directly via the bluetooth discovery in settings, b) but you can programmatically access bluetooth networking between the two devices.
I have tried two applications that connect and talk via bluetooth by design. When you start the applications, the app then goes and discovers and connects to the other device.
