Q: connecting iphone to ipad via bluetooth

For some reason my iPad won't recognise my iphone while it looks for devices with bluetooth. A couple of my friends have already successfully paired their devices to my ipad. Is there something wrong with my phone or am I missing something? Please help me out with any information, just trying to sort this out asap so I can play the scrabble application I just downloaded. Both my ipad and iphone had bluetooth on when I tried to pair them.
Thank you

YES you can pair them. those who said no are ********** big time but the bluetooth *****.

this is how i do it.

    1. switch on tether with ur iphone. mine is 3GS choose bluetooth.

    2. go to ur ipad general-network switch on blue tooth and pair.

if it doesnt work, which happens to mine sometimes,

    3. switch off bluetooth on ipad and switch it on again. and pair it again. rinse and repeat.

when it pairs two messages will pop up for ipad and iphone giving u an option to pair and a code. just press "pair" VIOLA! its paired.

i am using iphone 3gs and ipad 2 16gb wifi only.

I think it's absolutely terrible that I can't pair my iPhone 4 and iPad 2. I want to sync financial records when I'm on the road. This is, to use the Yiddish, a "shonda". It's rediculous and indefensible. Whoever made that decision or wrote those specs, you should be ashamed of yourself. And...just in case this is all a big mistake, a "bug" yet to be fixed, then please fix it so I can take back what I said and feel good about Apple again.

    Have you tried Mover+ ?

Just put a document or anything else for that matter on the table and 'pass' it back and forth to/from your iPad/iPhone. Works for me in bluetooth as well.

Yes! Finally got it to work.  3GS to Ipad2 wifi.  Had it working before IOS4 and then it went away so thought I lost my marbles.  First.  personal hotspot network settings for t-mobile need to be wap.voicestream.com for the hotspot to even show up.  Then iphone needs to have the hotspot turned on for the IPAD2 bluetooth to even see the phone.  Then the final is turn off the Data Roaming function in the network settings.  After playing with this back and forth after about 20 tries I finally got it to pair that way and now it works.

In process I had the following issues...... 1.  The Ipad wouldn't see the phone (turn on hotspot) 2. Then it saw it but the pairing errored out.  3.  Then the IPAD2 saw the phone and it came up with a pairing code on the IPAD2 saying it should show on the Phone but then that pairing errored out.  4. Finally turned off data roaming connection with the above changes of removing data roaming, and having the hotspot on I was able to pair them.

OK thanks for all the tips, I got my 3GS & ipad2 sharing blue tooth/personal hotspot, bit of effort, but easy when you know how.

Others that may still have problems, I think a factor MAY be...when purchasing my ipad2 I got only wifi model (not 3G), the guy said 3G will prevent tethering. Interesting! And glad he told me as I had planned on getting 3G version just in case I wanted it once in a while. So I happily saved and got only wifi. Now I'm mostly on wifi (large downloads), with the option of iphone hotspot, no accounts/contracts!!

I can testify for him. I have successfully paired my laptop (MacBook pro (snow leopard)) and my blackberry curve (even though it didn't do any thing, it still paired).

I've been able to tether my new (3rd G) ipad successfully to my Droid X via bluetooth as well without any issues.

However, I haven't been able to link an iphone successfully to the ipad... is there a trick I'm missing??

I was able to pair via Bluetooth and transfer pictures between iPad and iPhone both with iOS 4.x using PhoneShare app on both devices as they talk to each other. The app was free in the app store... It was slow and this version is one photo at a time but it works.... As for those "selling" the personal hot spot I have a Verizon phone and I didn't buy that plan so that method just wouldn't work...

I find it best to turn off wifi and personal hotspot on the iphone first; then turn hotspot back on - it will ask if you want to turn wifi on or use bluetooth/usb only - selecting bluetooth/usb only will then force hotspot to be bluetooth only and your iPad will now happily pair with it.

Email it to yourself. Or, sync your phone using iTunes.
