Q: ASU 2.2 destroyed my boot.ini

I recently wanted to install Visual Studio 2010 on my Windows XP partition and had to install the Service Pack 3 as well, which requires the Boot Camp update 2.1.

So i figured, i'd just use the Apple Software Update to get the latest version and it downloaded & installed fine, but XP just won't boot anymore.
Looking into the boot.ini from within OSX, it seems the file is corrupted:

what it looks like: http://i44.tinypic.com/2gwceo1.jpg
boot.ini download: http://www.mediafire.com/?zitdm2mohg1

Since i have a backup of my boot.ini, this usually wouldn't be a problem. But it won't let me delete/rename/edit the original boot.ini, i always get an i/O-error (Error -36).

I can modify or delete every other file on that partition, it's just the boot.ini making me trouble.

I've already tried to delete it via terminal (sudo rm -r boot.ini), but it didn't do anything. I've also tried to rebuild it with the bootcfg by booting from the XP CD, but that failed, too.
It did something though, the file is now empty and 0kB in size.

Is there anything i can do to replace it with my backup?
