This has got to be one of the lamest things I've seen from apple. One of the main reasons I got an ipad was I liked the touch features with photos and thought it would be a great way to easily view and edit photo albums. Now it turns out you can't get there from here. I ALLWAYS to manual sync. I want to be able to load folders onto my ipad from my laptop. Edit the content (ie delete the ones I don't want)and then move those edited folders back to the laptop. I apears I can't do that, not even close. Why invent such a great tool as the ipad and dumb it down that way. Leave it to apple to keep trying to protect the user from himself. This reminds me of why I'm a windows user.

You should be able to import/export ANY photo folder(album), edit the content of ANY folder at ANY time on the ipad, and put that folder/album back on your laptop/desktop.

Unfortunatley the inablility to have conrol over these functions severly limit the products usefulness

The red button still being on the left corner makes it seem like a bug. Please everyone with this problem follow the request link from the first reply to this thread and make this as a request to Apple. They should know full well that something as basic as this will cause a lot of headaches to users, but they need a push to get working on solving this problem. I can't believe major reviewers, blogs have not picked up on this fundamental flaw in their reviews of IPAD.

Another option I found was not to delete photos from source but to create a folder with only the photos you want imported to the iPad in them, save all the other photos to other files on the source pc. When the iPad is commected to the source, select the PHOTOS option and then you have options only to download from the specific file you created. The others will go from the iPad but still be on the source pc.

Well after waiting this long had to find another way to do this.

Xilisoft brought out a utility called ipad magic

I am now (albeit very slowly) deleting the 19000 images my stupid copy of Aperture put on the iPad and I cant get off. Also cant run Photo on the ipad at all as it times out waiting to load the pics, so cant wait to get these files off the machine.

this is beyond stupid.
i've had two iphones, dozens of macs and this is probably the most worthless device i've ever owned. not only does apple cripple it beyond usefulness but i paid an extra $30 for the sd card reader for my ipad, loaded over 2000 photos onto it only to find out i have to TAP EVERY SINGLE PHOTO individually to delete it.

please fix this apple!

this is freaking me out...i can't figure out how to delete my photos on my iPad...the red(delete) button is not even working....im trying to find out how to delete it from iTunes when i sync it but doesnt seems like they have option there either 😟

If you are using a sync folder for photos, you merely remove the photos from the sync folder.

If you are using iPhoto to sync photos, I am not familiar with iphoto as I use windows. (I know, yuk)

This has got to be the biggest joke of all time. There's no way to delete an entire "Event" at once?? I can't even delete the photos from the iPad when it's plugged in to my computer! I tried deleting all the folders in the DCIM folder but it just kept giving me errors that no other device/folder/anything has given me. How can Apple make a Camera Connector Kit (which I use) to let us put our photos onto the iPad but not give us an easy way to remove them later??

This is a dumb function to leave out. Why does everyhting have to go thru itunes and be so complicated? Surely you should be able to delete photos you dont want without having to plug the ipad back into your computer and syncing it with a folder you have to manage.

Let apple know what you'd like to see.....
