No you can't delete photos on the iPad.
You mange the content of your iPad from iTunes.

iPad User Guide is here :-

If you want to suggest it a a feature use the form here :-

You can only delete photos from the Saved Photos album. On the iPhone, all photos taken with the camera went there. The only way, it seems, to get photos there on the iPad is from Safari or from email. Only a sync can delete from the Photo Library album and that's the only way to get them there too.

You're half right, Steve. There are many 3rd party iPad apps that can send photos to the iPad's 'Photos' library, not just the Apple ones. But I think you're correct about not being able to delete them from the Photos library from the iPad itself.

Alternatively, if you bypass 'Photos' and use a 3rd party file browser app such as AirSharing, you can send files to the iPad wirelessly and then delete them from the iPad at any time.

I'm pretty sure those apps load photos only to the Saved Photos album, not the Photo Library album which seems accessible and controllable only through an iTunes sync. I think Apple wants the Photo Library under strict control. The only way to change it is through an iTunes sync.

    Open photo app.
Select photo(opening it in full screen), press the icon of the garbage can in the upper right.
When the big red button appears, saying "delete photo", press it.

Does that work in every album?

    ***!!!! I hadn't noticed that!

    WOW - thats terrible.

maybe i need to drop this into the blender

The system has the interface to manage the content. After the initial registration (done at the store) iTunes needn't be involved (it shouldnt be thene either).

    Gha!! What a terrible debacle!!!

There is another way, but it may only work with "events" on the iPad. You can edit the album when you click on it and it will have some options in the upper left hand corner. You can tap to select photos then hit the Delete option and it will delete all the selected photos.

I couldn't find this option in Photos, but it was there in Albums for "saved Photos" as well, but not the other albums. Only copy and email.

Do not have a delete option anywhere on my ipad. read that I have to delete all photos and start over. I don't know how to delete all photos either!

You do it by not syncing them to the iPad in iTunes (the way you got them on there in the first place).

Thanks! I erased them all, then redid it. Easy

There should be a functional "delete" button, just like mail. This is a problem Apple should fix. Why put a delete button above the photo list if it doesn't work?

Also, having to manage this in iTunes isn't very efficient, since you can only import at the event level.

I definately agree. What a pain - load up iTunes, spend an hour uploading your photo library from your desktop to your iPad - and after that, you can't even delete the pics you don't want straight from the touch-screen iPad? Lame.

I just deleted all the photos on my iPad .. from the iPad video app.

Apparently the difference is that they were all loaded direct from SD card using the Camera Kit.
