Mark on screen while at Dock setting with no programs running
There is a mark on the display when I am at the dock setting.and also shows up only when there is a dark colored background. It almost looks as if someone took an eraser to the screen. It is a straight line about two inches long with another two to three inch line curving down from the middle of the top line. It is in the middle of the screen slightly off center from the apple logo on the back. It is only slightly visible and seems to have no effect on the computer, just annoying. Anyone ever seen this before or know how to get rid of it?
This has been reported here a number of times. It is thought to be caused by undue pressure on the back of the display when the machine is closed, perhaps from carrying the machine in an overstuffed backpack or carrying case, or setting it down with books or other heavy objects on top of it.
Sometimes this is nothing more than light shining backwards in through the Apple logo and onto the screen. That light up logo on the back can pass light in both directions. This can be clearly seen by turning the computer off and then, with the lid up, hold the back of the screen up to a light bulb and when you look at the dark screen you will see the Apple logo on the screen from light coming in backwards through the logo.
So, if that is the case, does it ever go away or can it be fixed? Or is it just going to be an annoyance? I don't think it is the apple logo shining through because it is slightly off center of the logo.
No, it doesn't go away and can't be fixed short of replacing the display assembly, which Apple will be happy to do for several hundred dollars. And you're right, what you've described above is not light shining through the Apple logo.
