I have a new Mac. Migrated all our stuff from the broken G5. I was trying to get the applications folder back on my dock and accidently trashed it. I moved all the stuff out of trash to my account folder, but lost the applications folder itself. Now I'm not sure how to get it back or what all goes into it when I do. When we first started up the new Mac there were several folders on the dock, after the migration they were gone. Any ideas? Thanks!!
Glad you got your new Mac after the untimely demise of the G5.
So, did you migrate everything over? I'm thinking that your G5 was PPC
and your new Mac is Intel?
Yeah, I'm still in mourning over the G5
I wasn't too choosy in the migration, so I did migrate everything over. The new Mac is Intel. The old one was purchased before the transition, so I assume it is PPC. Like I said, the accounts we had prior to the migration had several folders on the dock. After the migration those were gone. I tried to drag my applications folder to the dock and inadvertantly put it in the trash. Then, after a brief panic attack, I moved everything from the trash to my named folder, but the apps folder was no where to be seen. Now I'm kind of stimied and unsure of what to do.
If you couldn't find it in the Trash, is it still in your hard drive root folder? It should have permissions that should have at least asked for an admin password.
I just opened a Finder window and typed "Applications" in the upper right search field. The first result was for the Applications Folder and at the bottom of the window it gives the path for finding it.
