How Do I Change My App Store Username????

When i got my iPad i set it up with my itunes username, which was a AOL account. i since changed my itunes account to use my apple id. when i purchase or try to update apps on my iPad, i have to enter a password. the AOL account that i originally set up as my app store account on my iPad is no longer active, but i can't figure out how to change the default username that pops up in the app store.

i have gone to the app store in my setting and changed that to my apple id account and i am logged in, but when i go to download an app, the verify password box is still set to my AOL username.

how do i change this??

Mac OS X (10.6.3)

I was just trying to change the username that appeared next to my app and media reviews that I posted in the iOS app store, iTunes, etc. The problem I had had nothing to do with changing my actual Apple ID.

I found a solution to MY problem of this problem HERE.

I hope that link helps people that were having the same problem I was having!!! 😁

try this. no guarantees;

in the iTunes app on your iPad, scroll down to the bottom. There should be 3 buttons across the bottom: "Account:<your user name>", "Redeem", and "Support"

Does the "Account" button show your AOL id?
Even if its not showing your AOL account name, click on it and choose "Sign Out" from the window that pops up.

Then try to sign in with the new username/password or make a purchase (even a free app will do) and sign in when prompted.

No idea if this will work, but its probably worth trying since making the change in settings is not working for you.

good luck

From the iPad manual

Store

Use Store settings to change or create an iTunes Store account. By default, the iTunes account you’re signed in to when you sync iPad with your computer appears in Store settings. You can change accounts on iPad to purchase music or applications from a different account. If you don’t have an iTunes account, you can create one in Store settings. Go to www.apple.com/legal/itunes/ww/.

Sign in to an account: Choose Store and tap Sign in, then enter your user name and password.

View your iTunes Store account information: Choose Store and tap View Account, then type your password and follow the onscreen instructions.

Sign in to a different account: Choose Store and tap Sign out, then tap Sign in and enter your username and password.

Create a new account: Choose Store and tap Create New Account, then follow the onscreen instructions.

thanks for the help!

i went into the app store, signed out and selected an app to download. it let me sign in with the apple id username and password and let me download the app fine.

but i have 2 updates on previous apps that i had downloaded with the AOL name, when i try to download the updates it still has my username set to the AOL name, so i can't download the updates because it doesn't give me the option to enter a different username =(

As you bought those apps using your AOL name just try to enter your former password that is linked to that account, don't try to change your account regarding those updates.

If talking about free apps - delete those apps from your iPad and re-download them using your Apple ID

I share your frustration here. Although you can login with another account, as you have experienced, you can't get updates unless you login again with your old account. This is crazy.
It should be possible to transfer purchases from one account to another, but it's not.
Additionally, it is crazy that the ID has got to be an email address and not a name. For example, like you, I wanted to change my account name as it is using an email address that no longer exists. However, it must now be an email address - didn't use to be that way! You are however allowed to change the associated email address for communications. So, I have the situation that my associated email address is correct on the account (my MobileMe email), but it is still named after my old email address! So, I login with a non-existent email address. How silly is that?

If you are logged in with your daughter's iTunes account, then you will be syncing to the apps that were purchased on that account.

Now, you can log off from that account, and logon with another, but then you will not be able to sync to any apps you bought on your daughters account. You will also not be able to 're-download' the apps to your new account. You can only do that from the account that the apps were purchased with.

What do you mean 'she no longer has that account'? I didn't think you can delete an Apple ID.

It doesn't matter if the email address is closed. You can associate any email address with her Apple ID.

Even though the ID is called jane.smith@aol.com, that is just the name You can still change the email address to any.thing@anyisp.com by going to https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/

If you're still facing this problem then

1. Press and hold any App Icon on your Ipad,

In 2 seconds All the app icons will start wobbling,

2. This is the 'uninstall mode' , click the apps that won't let you update (because they were originally installed with another Apple ID). Each App you click now will get 'uninstalled'.

3. Go back to the App store and 'reinstall' the Apps you need.

Now all the apps on there will be from your Apple ID.

hope that helps,

cheers,

Ash
