Should I get an ipod touch now or wait for the 4th gen's to come out?

Hi,
So I have a recently deceased first generation 8GB iPod touch. The apple store told me I could trade it in and get a new 3rd generation 8gb iPod touch for $150. That's a great deal!

So my question is should I take the offer, or should I wait for the 4th generation ipod touches to come out which is sometime in September? I've heard that they will have a camera which temps me, but 5 months is a long time! And plus they deal they're giving me might not last forever. But then again, I know that the 3rd gen 8gb touch had no upgrades at all from the 2nd gen (unlike the 32 and 64 gb models which got a new, faster cpu, gpu, twice the ram, voice control, etc) I really want it to be fast because my main purpose is mobile gaming.

This also makes me wonder if the 4th gen 8gb models will be getting a performance upgrade and still remain around the same price. If that's the case, I'd definitely wait. I just don't want to get it now and then realize it's not powerful enough to run some of the big apps in the app store later. That's my main fear right now.

Thanks!

MacRumours recommends that you only purchase a new Touch if you really need it. It's running near the end of its product cycle. This also means that you'll be seeing lower prices on relevant refurbs, both from Apple and third party.

The price will likely remain around current levels, which is good. But no one knows about concrete differences in speed and performance. If you wait a while, you could have your pick of 3 and 4g Touches, which puts you in the driver's seat.

The only thing that would make me upgrade would be increased video resolution, which may well appear in the 4g.

I think that it all varies between of what kind of a urgency you really would like to buy an iPod touch. Its all about of the needs of wanting the iPod touch vs I just want it for music player. But if you can't wait for a new iPod touch to hit the apple shelves, and would like to have the music capabilities+Internet. I will totally say go for that, buy the iPod touch, but make sure you purchase the higher memory models like 32/64GB because with the new Iphone 4.0 it would take full advantage of it's features(like multitasking).

If I were you, I could wait for a matter of four months for the September wait of the new iPod line in the end of the year season. Because I will guarantee that apple will add new features that probably will blow out of the water the older models. Apple seems to be playing catching up to other cellphone makers who are adding brighter/higher resolution screens like apple did with the ipad. So we will probably be seeing higher resolution screens on the iPod touch. There is a lot of Internet talk, that is mentioning that the newer models is gonna come with apple built-in house A4 chips like the ipad with 1ghz of power. We are hoping that we will get at least 512MB of RAM, hopefully a built in microphone.

I decided to pull the trigger on the 5th gen. Nano 16GB. Its really all I need anyway, and then some, and if I still have the bug to buy the touch when the 4th gen comes out, i will reevaluate at that time. The more i think about it, the iPod touch is practically useless for home use, and unless your in a hot spot, useless on the road as well. Im not really into games and movies enough to justify its purchase, my laptoop still does those things. the real way to go is the iPhone with the data plan, which can make full use of all the portability of the internet anywhere, and makes a much greater value.

Should I get an ipod touch now or wait for the 4th gen's to come out?
