My books disappeared

Last night I opened my iBooks app and my library had disappeared. I went into iTunes and found my books and reinstalled. Has anyone else lost their library?

I nearly panicked because the same thing happened to me. Nothing remained in my library except book sample I'd downloaded. I restarted iBooks--no change. I restarted the iPad--no change.

As I was starting to become afraid that I had lost the books I'd bought, I suddenly remember that I'd synced my iPad with iTunes yesterday. So, I connected my iPad to my MacBook Pro and on the Books tab, I noticed that "Sync Books" was unchecked. I have no idea why this happened. I wouldn't have unchecked it it.

Anyway, I checked the box, synced m iPad again, and now all my books are back.

Weird!

This has happened to me twice, the first time I was not sure what I did. The second time, this is how it happened - I opened my ibook, I saw all the books displayed on the bookshelf, I accidentially hit edit/done upper right hand icon, then boom - everything disappeared without warning. I turned my ipad off, turned it back on and still had no books. Not a single book. I had to re-sync it again from my itunes. If you know how to fix this, please let me know. Thanks.

This seems to happen to me periodically. I've got a lot of ebooks, from various sources, including a bunch of manuals from my company.

I'll open up the ipad, the books will be on the shelves, and then, as I watch, they all just disappear. They will also be missing from iTunes when I look there. After copying them back to iTunes and synching again, any books that I had before will go to the same shelf, and will have kept any bookmarks. Books that I don't copy again will remain missing.

There is no rhyme or reason to it. After using iBooks faithfully for years now, turning from the cheaper and better stocked Kindle store I am having major issues with it. Since my iPhone 5 battery dies so quickly, I bought a 5th gen iPod just for one app, iBooks. Well four days after this new purchase and it working out really well, I was reading one of my books when I decided to go to the iBooks store to check for a sequel. After that I went to my purchased shelf and then back to "my favorite books" shelf to my novel. To my shock only my purchased books remained but my long standing books, including the one I was reading, were all gone. The first obvious thought was that I was still somehow in the purchased shelf but I wasn't, I was in my "my favorite books" shelf. I went through all my shelves and every book I had not purchased through iBooks, all my PDFs and older free epubs were gone. I checked my iPhone 5 and they were still on there, did a soft reset to my iPod, restarted it, etc. basic troubleshooting but no books came back. I knew I could restore from backup via iCloud but I was without wifi. When I was finally able to connect to a wifi hotspot I was able to erase the entire iPod and restore from backup which took all night leaving me bookless when I needed them the most. 24hrs later all is restored but how do I know this isn't going to randomly happen again some night when I really need a book? I'm very disappointed and would love to know why iBooks is so buggy after years!
