Installing a flat-bed scanner

I doubt it'll work under 10.6. My 4570 doesn't. You may need to try third party software like SilverFast.

There are usually two ways. One way is to launch Image Capture in the Utilities folder; many scanner types simply show up on their own in there.

The second way is to install the software that came with the scanner.

Did you receive an install disc with your scanner? If so, you must install this before connecting the scanner to your Mac for the first time. Once the software has been installed, your Mac should then recognise the scanner once it is connected & powered on.

If needs be, you should be able to download the software needed to run it from HP's website.

The solutions do not include HP ScanJets. I have tried to get my 4570 to function under 10.6 and it doesn't work. SilverFast at least has a driver for the ScanJet that the OP has.

I have a HB 4380 that I really haven't tried with OS X. However, I'm also running a iMac 21.5" (new model) with Bootcamp and Windows 7 and the scanner works fine.

I've never been able to connect to the 4380 with wifi from my MB. However, IF I hook it up with a USB cable, it seems to work fine.

Macaby the 4380 is an all in one printer. The OP has a ScanJet.
