Keyboard Shortcut for zoom in/out??

So I go to View>Zoom>Zoom in or Zoom out and it shows there are shortcut keys to zoom in and out.

But they don't zoom in or out. Command + < brings up preferences (as it does with any Apple software), and Command + > does nothing.

What gives?

It seems that "*_as it does with any Apple software_*" doesn't mean the same thing for you and me.

cmd + < doesn't bring Preferences in Safari
cmd + < doesn't bring Preferences in Mail
cmd + < doesn't bring Preferences in iPhoto
cmd + < doesn't bring Preferences in iTunes

on my machines, in Pages and Numbers

cmd + < is really Zoom In
cmd + > is really Zoom Out

I'm not sure of the English keyboard behaviour.
Maybe you must press the shift key.
