After restoring 3GS, Exchange ActiveSync errors are really piling up

What are all the settings on an iPhone that can affect the use of Exchange ActiveSync?

I had been using this phone fine for ActiveSync against Exchange 2003 SP2, but one day recently the phone locked up on me and I had to restore it, which I did. I also reconfigured its Exchange account. I can still sync up to Exchange, but Exchange is recording thousands of errors in Windows Server's application log. It never did this before except on the rare occasion of an actual problem, which there isn't now--syncing works.

Nothing has changed on the server in this short amount of time, and I've verified with an outside site used for testing your Exchange ActiveSync setup, that no errors are triggered with it.

Something is different about the phone.

Unfortunately, the error is something of a generic one, and it can mean any number of things.

It is the "nuclear option", as you put it, but any time I update the firmware, that's what I do, and I have never had a problem on several iPhones to date (have a house full of them 2 x 2G, 1 x 3G, and 2 x 3GS). I did the same thing with my BlackBerries when I updated them, too. To me it's just easier to start fresh..

Let us know what you did to solve your problem..
