Unable to load classic on a second user account

A school I work for just got new iMac G5s (with the built in camera) and classic mode will not load all the way on a second user account.
We create images with an admin account, and then add the teacher accounts afterwards.
The admin account will load classic without issue, but the second account will not load it at all. the classic window pops up (OS9 load screen) and gets about 1/8 inch of blue in the progress bar and stops. It'll sit there forever if you let it.

Anyone know why this is happening, or how to fix it?

Thanks!

Hey Ron! Are you being a bit pessimistic there?

It does sound a bit like the "Teachers" account doesn't have the all the right privileges or resources, and by default it should which is partly why I wondered what might happen before the system was imaged...

By default every Account should be able to run Classic although only one at a time but the all other Accounts should get warnings, not launch failures.

Whether it's going to be much use on a modern G5 with this particular school's specific configuration is a different question and my experience, both personally and reading the forum is that most mainstream OS 9 apps are fine in Classic and those that aren't tend to be games and specialist technical and accounting packages (very oddly)

Robbie Goodwin...

" Hey Ron! Are you being a bit pessimistic there?"

Well, the glass isn't half full or half empty, but what happened to the glass? Sorry its on the floor and it can stay there because its not working and someone forgot to fill it up!

Now back to subject in hand...

It is common knowledge as these "Cat" OSs progress Mac OS 9 Classic is a dead duck. Each upgrade of Mac OS 10 is set to choke and elimate Classic.

Now there isn't any thing pessimistic here, just the cold facts. Why beat on a dead horse? Working progress is in the current state, not backwards.

That's true and that's also about what happens after he's got Classic running, and what we have here seems to be simply that a second, non-admin User can't launch it.

Personally I'm surprised how few problems I have with Classic and I notice that most of other peoples problems seem to be down to some combination of non-compliant third-party software, corruption or misconfiguration.

I don't deny that those get worse with X generations, and I don't deny that to the thwarted User it really doesn't matter whether new Apple developments revealing old faults lurking somewhere are not strictly speaking the same thing as Apple introducing new faults and it's still the case that for most of the people most of the time, Classic is still fine…

…and at the end of the day all of serogers1970's users should still be able to launch Classic straight out of the box and I don't want to put them off…

Sorry all, I forgot to deactivate this post, but it did in fact turn out to be permission problems with the OS9 system folder.
I changed permissions for the group from ADMIN to STAFF and that got it up and running.
Thanks for the replies!
