How do I move a file instead of copy it?

I want to move files to, from and between computer, usb stick and usb hdd and I do not want to make duplicates. What do I need todo in order to simply move the file, not copy it?

 MacBook Pro 13" 2.53GHZ 250HDD 4GB RAM, Mac OS X (10.6.3), This thing is a tank!

Just keep the Cmd key pressed while yoy make the drag & drop. The Finder will move them instead of copying.
