iPod got wet, how do i fix it?

I think my iPod got a bit damp at the weekend - someone spilt a drink on it.

It's now acting very strangely -at first it worked ok but with no screen light. Now the touch has broken so I can't even slide to log in.

what do you do??

thanks

Using Silica Gel packets is the best way to completely dry out an electronic device, like an iPod, that has gotten wet.

You are right that the Silica Gel packets that come in shoes and electronics packaging are too small to effectively dry out your iPod. Not only are they too small, they are already at least partially saturated which means they will not be able to absorb as much moisture from your iPod.

To completely dry out your iPod, you need several fresh Silica Gel packets. There are several online sources, the one I have had the best luck with is http://www.silicagelpackets.com. They have a product that is designed to rescue wet cell phones that alsoo works great for iPods - the iRecovery Cell Phone Drying Kit.

helloo everyone

well thanks for getting your teeth into this one, i do appreciate the latter comments. Julian I'm sorry you got upset but you need to work on your posts old boy and try to get out more and do more exercise. also it's cool to swear man, just say **** if you want to i don't mind.

i liked the vaccum idea, but will stick with the rice, now on day 2, and if that doesn't work I'll switch to silica gel, thank you so much for the helpful link too.

brilliant, you have all been really helpful, I'll report back in a few days with the conclusion of the Rice Experiment.

If your still under warranty Apple may be willing to do a "warranty voided repair" getting you a replacement refurb for $130. Not even sure how I got wet but happened to me just a few months after I got the thing and now the replacement is acting up. Sometimes soaking up the moisture can make a difference even after some damage has been done, depends on the damage. So really your best bet is the whole rice deal although chances are low. Saved cell phones before after about 2 weeks but this was with limited water exposure and battery removed after incident. The battery being non-removable makes these situation all the worse because there is no way to remove power from the system frying more components in the crucial minutes after soaking.

The policy and price would be the same whether the iPod is still within theoriginal warranty period or not, since getting an iPod wet voids the warranty. In the UK the replacement price will range from £82.29 to £176.29 depending on the model of iPod touch.

Regards.

Just thought I'd share my very positive experience at the Penn Square Mall Apple Store in Oklahoma City. Two days ago my 44oz soft drink cup sprang a leak when the straw was pushed through the bottom of the cup. The soda overflowed into the adjacent cup holder which happened to have my 3rd Gen iPod Touch 64GB in it. The touch was almost completely submerged for about 45 minutes. When I removed it you could hear sizzling inside the touch and it became very hot in one corner. It was toast and I knew it would not be covered under warranty. Not to mention the litmus paper now had a pink line.

I called Apple and they told me that since the original warranty was in effect that worst case scenario I could pay $199 and they'd either fix it or most likely give me a new one with my trade-in. Considering a new touch would be around $400 I went to the Apple store to pay my $200.

To my surprise the guy at the Genius Bar told me that Apple Stores can actually 'buy' broken touches that were damaged outside of warranty and just give me a new one. 10 minutes later and I was leaving with a new 64GB Touch even though I had ruined it in Diet Dr. Pepper.

When I asked the rep told me it is not widely known they can do this and its up to the rep. He said he did it because I told him I owned other Apple products, was friendly and courteous and didn't try and lie about the damage.

Here is what my receipt says.... "Proposed Resolution: Replace iPod as a one time exception, customer understands that should this iPod be liquid damaged, this isn't something that can be covered going forward."

All I have to say is that this made my day! Thanks Apple!!!!!

No, it isn't. You will grow up someday and realize that. She wasn't referring to some vague system, she was referring to the fact the Jive software here blocks it and she appreciates that fact Nothing weird about that. And I've seen lots of scifi films, and read many more scifi books, short stories, etc. and still have no idea what you are referring to.
