Disappearing Apps

Every time I install ITunes and have to sync my IPhone, the 90% of the apps I bought disappear. I can always download them again but, why are they being removed after a new ITunes install?

Every time you install iTunes?

How often do you reinstall iTunes and why?

I've never had to reinstall iTunes on any of the Macs I used since iTunes was first released before the iTunes store was available.

As with any other application, no data that iTunes accesses is stored with the application. iTunes accesses all data which is stored elsewhere and completely separate. 3rd party apps are stored in a Mobile Applications named folder located in the iTunes folder which is in your Music folder.

Are all apps in your iTunes library on your computer or only on your iPhone?

Let me change that then. If I re-image my computer, after installing ITunes, I try to sync my apps. Each time I do this, it wipes out 90% of my downloaded apps and leaves me with default apps and a very few d/l'd apps. Even if I back up my phone before the sync. I always have to end up looking for the apps that I had prior to the sync to get them on ITUNES. Why cant ITUNES look at the apps you have on your PHONE and just copy them over when you sync your apps??

All apps should be in your iTunes library on your computer along with all other iTunes content available on your iPhone. No iTunes content on your iPhone is included with your iPhone's backup. Your iTunes library on your computer should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data - copy/backup the iTunes named folder located in your Music folder.

After purchasing/downloading an app with your iPhone, the app should be copied to your iTunes library on your computer the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so. The same applies after purchasing/downloading music with your iPhone and for movies/TV Shows purchased/downloaded with your iPhone.

Do you have Sync Apps selected under the Apps tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes? If so, any app purchased/downloaded with your iPhone should be copied to your iTunes library on your computer the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes after doing so.

If you reimage your computer (BTW, WHY do you reimage it? I've never reimaged any computer, Windows or Mac) it is a new computer to the iTunes store. So when you sync iTunes will recognize it as a different computer and sync it as if it was new. If you haven't authorized it first to the account on your iPhone it will delete iTunes iPhone content; apps, podcasts, video and music.
