Flash Drive Not Recognized?

Hello.
I had recently purchased a flash drive to transfer data [mostly pictures, music and videos] from my old Toshiba laptop to my new MacBook. I made sure that the drive said it worked with Macs and PC's however when I put the flash drive into the USB port, nothing happens. It was working fine with the Toshiba, and on the other iMac we had it worked fine. What can I do?
By the way, the iMac is only about a month older than my MacBook.
Thanks for your help.

I would first make sure the USB port is recognizing it. Look in About this Mac > More Info > USB. If it doesn't show up there, try the other port.
Then try Disk Utility. See if it is recognized there too.

Try a USB keyboard in the USB port to see if the port is working or not.
