Windows - No Disk error!

I can't start up iTunes. After clicking on the iTunes icon, I get the message titled Windows - No Disk "There is no disk in the drive. Please insert disk into drive." followed by the buttons Cancel, Try Again, and Continue. The only way to get rid of this window is to kill the itunes.exe process and then close the window - otherwise, none of the buttons work and the window is persistent.

I have updated iTunes, QuickTime, and the iPod software to the latest as of 11/21/05. I read one of the posts saying I should clear out QuickTime's recent files. That didn't help.

I would say this is a recall class bug. I don't understand how Apple can ship this stuff given all the problems people are having.

I called Apple tech support and very politely went through issue of iTunes not starting. He immediatly blamed Windows for my problem. After walking him through the issue again and describing what I had done - install the latest versions, do the msconfig thing, etc - he suggested I return it. I don't know what "it" is because the line went dead.

If I can, I'm returning my iPod Nano. It has caused nothing but grief from day one.

I have a Windows Media Center PC from HP. It has a reader on it for different memory cards - HP calls it a 7-1. It reads SD cards, CompactFlash cards, etc. The four slots are assigned disks D through G. Normally I only use the SD slot. When I used the CompactFlash slot, it didn't work. And at the same time iTunes stopped working.

There is a Microsoft KB article on this problem. The resolution solved the No Disk error with iTunes.

I started the disk manager, then re-assigned the four disk letters to other letters. In my case I chose K,L,M,N. Quit the utility and start iTunes.

I'm still miffed at Apple. Theirs is the only software that got caught with this bug.
