iBook won't connect to wireless network through AirPort

I just bought a old school iBook off ebay for the kiddo to use online.
Mac OS X version 10.3.9
600 MHz PowerPC G3
Airport Firmware version: 9.52

I can not seem to get it to connect to my wireless network even though my other Mac books and laptops and iPhones connect to it fine. I am running a WPA secure connection, and I do not want to change it to WEP. (meaning I would have to reconfigure over 11 things in my house to new connection.

The password and network name is correct since I did double check.

MacBook G4, iPhone 3.1, iPhone 3gs, iTouch 3.0, iPod nano 2nd Gen, Apple TV, Mac OS X (10.5.4)

Are you running WPA1 or WPA2? (The iBook won't be able to cope with WPA2.)

If you're using a router, be sure that it is set to mixed mode in order to accommodate the 802.11b standard used by the iBook's original AirPort Card. Your other computers likely are using the 802.11g standard (or maybe the even newer 802.11n standard).

Which version of the AirPort software is installed? You need AirPort software version 3.3 or later for the AirPort Card in order to work with WPA1.

If you don't have that version, it can be found on VersionTracker:

http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12531&vid=131567

(Scroll down until you see the link that says "Download Apple AirPort Version 3.3 (File Size: 7.0M)")

Once you have AirPort 3.3 installed, you can download the 3.3.1 update to it from here:

Good luck with it!

I have the same problem and so far can only resolve using WEP insead of WPA. Despite updating all elements and changing my WF encryption to WPA only, the iBook will not accept the password to join the network. The only way I can get it to join is by disabling all encryption which is not a satisfactory long-term solution, or using WEP encryption which works okay.

Thanks, but it's not really a APE problem.

I understand that, but I thought maybe someone there would have experience with both 10.3 and an AirPort Express.

Sometimes things just don't work and there is a limit to how much time it is worth investing in them!

Are you saying that you no longer wish to pursue the problem? I can ask for help from others, but if you're no longer interested, I won't go that route.

All the best

And to you, also.
