iMac 27 from US to Europe

I am studying in the US and I have been trying to find a way for months now, how to transport a 27 inch iMac back to Europe with me. However all the carriers (USPS, TNT, UPS, DHL) charge approximately $800 to ship it to Europe.

Do to the size on the beast there is no way of taking it on the plane as a carry on. And, when you check it into luggage, then... well you know what the luggage handlers do with packages. If I bough a special case to protect it (costing several hundred dollars) then that defeats the purpose of buying it from the US.

So my question is... has anyone figured out an ingenious way to transport a 27 inch iMac to Europe?

I did a little checking myself and yes the figures you got seem to be in the ballpark, I'm sorry I stand corrected!

However I think all of these forms of shipping use air freight which although fast is expensive. I would suggest freight companies, it will take longer to receive however I think the prices would be better. I would recommend doing a Google search using International Freight. You are lucky you're in Seattle which is a major port, this means you will probably have several shipping firms to choose from.

If you still find this too expensive then you might consider selling it here in the US and then buying again overseas. Yes that might be expensive however I don't know how much when you calculate what you can get for it and how much it would cost to replace.

Good luck!

Roger
