stupid question

I am in the market for a new mac. Upon reading these forums, I have seen posted that some of the mac's have a liquid cooling system. I look at the apple store spec's for the computers and can't find which computers have the cooling system. I am interested in the liquid cooling system if it really helps the computers run quite. Could someone inform me about which computers have the cooling system.

Thank you

I am in the process of redeploying an air-cooled dual 2.0 GHz G5 system that was purchased when they were first announced in the fall of 2003. I already have its replacement as described in my profile below below and it is liquid-cooled. The liquid-cooled system is quieter, the fans don't surge as much and what noise it produces is more like a 'hum' or a 'hiss' rather than the roar produced by air fans.

Not that it doesn't have its share of fans! I count eight of them: two in front of the processors, two more behind, one in front of the expansion bay, one on the graphics card, one in front of the hard drives and another behind the drives -- exactly the same number and configuration as the air-cooled system.

I don't know since I bought mine in May and haven't looked back!

I was addressing your curiosity about the differences between air-cooled and liquid-cooled systems rather than their availability. It may be that the only liquid-cooled system they now offer is the quad 2.5 GHz. Gee, that's too bad, looks like you'll have to get one! 😉

I think I have decided to go with the liquid cooled. My friend has an air cooled computer that just drives her crazy! I want my computer to be as quite as possible. There just isn't a choice in which liquid cooled model to buy since the 2.5ghz seems to be the only one available. I did come across one post here on the boards about someone who's liquid cooling system leaked and did damage to the computer. That did concern me, but I guess there could be problems with any computer you buy. I will be going to the apple store in the next week to make my purchase. Meanwhile, i will snoop around here some more. Thanks for replying!

bandit:

At the risk of offering unsolicited advice … whichever model you get, pay for AppleCare! Apple just paid for a repair on my more-than-two-year-old G5 system, including on-site service. It doesn't take much to go wrong on an expensive computer system to justify the few hundred dollars more for AppleCare, especially if the system you buy has something "new and different" like the liquid cooling you are concerned about. OK, [rant off] … good luck with your decision.

Thank you all for answering my questions. I am really excited about getting a new computer. Want to make sure I make the right choice. Just doing my homework.

Iphoton - Thanks for the advice about the applecare. I have always gotten it. It does pay off to have it. I have had to use it a couple of times in the past.

Happy Thanksgiving to ALL !

i've got the dualcore 2.3 and inside the case, it's got a sticker that says to unplug and consult the manual....
i would suspect from that sticker that my 2.3 dualcore is liquid cooled.
the apple site doesn't promote the liquid cooling like it did in the previous versions, but it also doesn't say which new ones have liquid cooling....
