can't move more than 4gb file to USB drive

Hi,

I have a strange issue in my Snow leopard 10.6.3, I can't move more than 4gb of file into a USB drive.

How is the USB drive formatted? If not MacOSX the upper limit may be 4gb.

your drive is probably a FAT32 formatted drive. check this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FileAllocationTable.

Do you have something like NTFS-3G installed then? Because Snow Leopard cannot write to NTFS by default.

And does it only happen with files larger than 4GB? That really sounds more like the FAT32 limit rather than it being an NTFS problem.

I don't have NTFS-3G Installed, And is there any other way i can copy data larger than 4gb to my USB drive which ntfs filesystem.

If you're copying to the stick and don't have NTFS-3G or something similar installed, and it's a PC format stick, it must be FAT32 formatted because Mac OS cannot write to an NTFS formatted stick without installing third party software.

If that is true, FAT32 does not support files over 4 GB in size.

You can tell the format of the stick by examining it using Disk Utility.
