MS Excel - out of memory error - excel wont open

I have a Macbook pro with 2 GB of memory and never had any issues opening MS Excel until now.

The issue is Excel will not open and gives an error stating "Not enough Memory" for some reason and no spreadsheet can be opened regardless of the size (most are small, under 1 MB files).

Please, any suggestions on what to do? I cant imaging buying more memory because MS Excel was working fine for over 1 year and all of a sudden this "not enough memory" error appears.

Macbook Pro 13", Mac OS X (10.5.8)

jvakos,

Welcome to Apple Discussions.

What trouble shooting have you done? The first thing I'd recommend doing is looking at Activity Monitor (Under the System Memory Tab) and see where you memory is being used and quit any processes that seem to be taking up lots of RAM. 2 MB isn't a lot of memory to begin with so it's possible a memory upgrade would be recommended.

Let us know what you find out.

Roger

Roger,

Thanks for the response. I did shut down all un-necessary apps to maximize the memory and did a full disk repair / permissions repair and still get that Excel error "out of memory".

Excel keeps hanging at the point of "Optimizing Fonts" or something then it gives the error.

ANy other suggestions??

Thanks for the help! John
