Trackpad and keyboard cable coming loose

Twice in the past three days my keyboard and trackpad have stopped working simultaneously. Using an external mouse works fine, so it's clearly a hardware problem. Both times I unplugged the cable connecting the trackpad to the main cable coming out of the top case that goes to the motherboard, then put it back in, and it started working again. It didn't seem to be loose or anything. Why would this get dislodged? My laptop barely moves; 90% of the time its just sitting on my desk, so it's not like it got jostled or anything.

The cable I'm talking about is the top right one in step 11 here: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Installing-MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Core-2-Duo-Mod els-A1226-and-A1260-Upper-Case-Replacement/662/4

Just unplugging it and plugging it back in fixes the problem.

MacBook Pro (June 2007), Mac OS X (10.6.3), Seagate 500GB 7200.4

Hi ravisurdhar,

As eww says this really belongs in the "Original" MBP forum, but problems with the trackpad and keyboard cabling are very common with your model .

See http://theappleblog.com/2009/04/06/the-curious-case-of-the-missing-macbook-pro-k eyboard-and-trackpad/ and http://lbarclay.wordpress.com/2009/01/29/macbook-pro-trakpad-and-keyboard-not-wo rking/

Many people manage to resolve it reasonably effectively by simply sticking the cable down with some anti-static tape.

Cheers

Rod
