Trying to use my Korg M50 as a Midi controller AND receiver in LE

I recently purchased a Korg M50 and thus far have only been able to use it as a MIDI controller for the MIDI patches in Garageband and the basic MIDI patches that come with Logic Express. What I want to do is tap into the big soundbank in the M50 and use those patches to program MIDI in LE. I currently use a USB cable to connect the M50 to my macbook. I would greatly appreciate some help figuring out what I need to configure in the LE software or on the keyboard itself to be able to record MIDI with the patches in the M50. Thanks very much.

Well, pls make it a little more specific: Do you want to record MIDI Data from you M50 into Logic? Well, as we all know from the good old Commodore C64 days, "Press play on tape". Simply record these patches into Logic by creating a software instrument track, arm it for record, and let the M50 play back it's patches. They should end up as MIDI data inside Logic.

Now that's MIDI. Or do you want to record the AUDIO of the M50? This is another topic. Or do you want to trigger the sounds of the M50 by sending MIDI data from Logic to it?

Have you checked on your M50 that
- Global > System Preference > Bank Map is set on KORG (not GM)?
- Global > Midi > Bank Change and Program Change are enabled, Local is Off and Midi Clock is External?
Have you checked on your MacBook that
- the M50 is defined in Audio Midi Setup?

You should hear your M50 Program Sounds when you record a Midi Track (or playback an already existing one) on the M50 (not in the MacBook!).

To hear the M50 sounds on your MacBook (and to be able to save them as an audio track in Logic), you will also have to route the audio outputs from the M50 to your MacBook with appropriate audio cables.
