MBP i7 Windows 7 64 bit trackpad drivers are buggy.

I've had my new MBP for a week now. I like it but I'm frustrated with the trackpad.

There's a bug in the two finger right click. It seems to send a left click when you release the button. As an example, if I want to pin a program to the taskbar. Normally, you right click on the program then click on the "pin this program to the taskbar" line on the pop up menu. When I do that with the two finger click, the pop up menu disappears when I lift my fingers from the pad. The only way I can get it to work is if I move my fingers a little bit to trigger the drag function. Then I can release and click on the pop up menu. It doesn't do this with the bottom corner right click method.

All in all, I'm not happy with the new multi-touch trackpad. This is not a user friendly piece of hardware. It works great as long as you don't need to right click on anything. Right clicking is awkward no matter which method you use - even without the bugs.

I'd prefer a setting that lets you press the fn key to trigger the right click. I think that would work better than the two supported methods - at least for me. I haven't been able to find any programs for Windows that will do it. Does anyone know of any?

Also, is there an official place to report bugs?

EDIT: just got the answer, instead of selecting Apple's drivers for touchpad select Human interface. That's the soulution I found in another post

-Go to Device Manager
-Under Human Interface Devices you have an Apple Trackpad listed change this driver to USB Human Interface Device
-Properties
-Driver (tab)
-Update Driver
-"No, not this time" (radio button)
-Next
-"Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)" (radio button)
-Next
-Dont search, I will choose a driver to install" (radio button)
-Next
-USB Human Interface Device
-Next

Same issues with the Apple track pad drivers as the left click and right click do not work like they do on the external mouse. (If you use the non apple drivers then the touch and tap stop working !!! so errrrrr that's not great help.

I got the right click by using multi touch (two fingers touching the trackpad) and then right click to get the right click to work.
However I'm not able to get this to work on the main windows start icon ! So have reverted to using an external mouse, because all the keys on the external mouse work as expected.

Dear Apple pleas fix the drivers.

Thanks.

The other way was to use two finger touch facility found in Bootcamp. You will need to start bootcamp control panel, its the grey diamond at the bottom of the windows task bar. Then in the track pad option (if you have un-installed the apple track pad driver you will have to re install this from the bootcamp cd, before you can see this tab). The just select two finger click and secoundery click as you prefer.
You will need the drivers from the osx 10.6.3 DVD.

Hope this helps !
Still think the drivers are perfect.

Observation #1: To increase the probability of a left click registering, I have discovered that it will work all of the time if one finger from the right hand is touching the trackpad, and one finger from the left hand does the click. If I use only one finger for a left click (without any other finger touching the trackpad), the probability is about 50 percent the left click will register and it depends upon where the pressure is applied (i.e., the lower-left hand corner will almost never work).

Observation #2: In the "Boot Camp Control Pannel -- Trackpad" settings, de-selecting "Two Fingers Secondary Click" has no effect -- i.e., even though it is de-selected, you can still right click by pressing with two fingers on the trackpad. This observation is true if the "One Finger Secondary Click Bottom Right Corner" is checked / enabled.

Any ideas?

I suggest everyone in here check out "trackpad++"

sensitivity is greatly improved and although two finger right click isn't fixed, the dev seems to be actively improving his drivers.

as far as using the fn key + plus clicking to simulate a right click, here's an old utility that does something similar: http://cybernetnews.com/helpful-tip-right-click-in-boot-camp/

press and hold control button and click to simulate right click 🙂

After a lot of reading these posts the good news is there is an extremely simple answer (worked on my Macbook Pro 2010, Bootcamp running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate)
1) Boot in Windows 7
2) Insert 'Max OS X Install DVD"
3) Run the update when prompted
-All the drivers will be updated/installed and then all the keyboard backlight, fn keys etc will work
4) Open Boot camp in control panel (might have to search for it)
5) Set the trackpad options
-That's it!

Hope this helps as none of the other suggestions seemed to work for me...
