How to lock numeric keyboard so space bar does not take you back to alpha

I need to type addresses such as 1255 23rd Avenue, but when I press the space bar between the street number and street name, it goes back to alpha and I have to press ?123 again to continue with numeric. This is ridiculous. Is there anyway to keep the numeric keyboard as numeric until I press the ABC key?
